Boasting a 92% literacy rate, it is clear that, while Myanmar is still developing, the country's education has always been of high importance.

THE PRESIDENT'S GOALS:

SCHOOL SYSTEM:

Children enter grade one at the age of five. This is called lower primary school. Lower primary school includes grades one through three.

At the age of eight, children enter grade four. This is called upper primary school and includes grades four and five.

At ten years of age, children enter grade six. This is the lower secondary school. Students will remain here until they have completed grade nine.

They enter grade ten, upper secondary school, at the age of 14. Once they have finished grade eleven, they will graduate.

Secondary School Curriculum:

Burmese, English, and mathematics are core subjects. Students are allowed to choose three electives. Possible subjects include physics, chemistry, biology, geography, history and economics
