KBZ (Kanbawza) Bank was initially established on 1st of July 1994 in Taunggyi, a small town in Southern Shan State. Our earlier operations mainly catered the local population in Taunggyi. In late 1999, our present Chairman, U Aung Ko Win, took over the management and reformed the organisation into one of the biggest private banks in Myanmar. With the liberalization of the financial sector in 1993, Yoma Bank was granted a full commercial banking license on the 27th July 1993.
The first branch was officially opened for business on the 14th of August1993 at No.1 Kun Gyan Road, Mingalar Taung Nyunt Township, Yangon, where it still stands today.
